Visa on Arrival — Entry Points

  • Tribhuvan International Airport — Kathmandu
  • Pokhara International Airport — Pokhara
  • Gautam Buddha International Airport — Bhairahawa (Lumbini)
  • Land border crossings — multiple points open to tourists

Required Documents

  • Valid passport (with light-background photo)
  • Completed online visa application form with barcode receipt (valid 15 days) — pre-fill at nepaliport.immigration.gov.np
  • Visa fee payment receipt (paid at designated bank counter)
  • Completed arrival card

The 3-step on-arrival process: 1) Complete arrival card & online form → 2) Pay fee at bank counter, receive receipt → 3) Submit documents to immigration officer.

Extensions processed by the Department of Immigration offices in Kathmandu or Pokhara. Maximum total stay is 150 days per visa year.

Free (Gratis) Visa Eligibility

  • Children under 10 years of age (except US citizens)
  • SAARC nationals (except Afghanistan) — first visit, up to 30 days
  • Non-Resident Nepalese (NRN) card holders
  • Chinese nationals — up to 150 days
  • Officials from certain countries including Thailand, Russia, Brazil, Myanmar, Vietnam, Israel, and Qatar (conditions apply)

Indian nationals do not require a visa. Acceptable ID includes a valid passport or Election Commission card.

Pre-Arrival Visa Required

Nationals of the following countries must obtain a visa from a Nepalese diplomatic mission before travelling — visa on arrival is not available:
